Forwards
Tanner Richard - OHL - Guelph Storm
After playing with the Storm in the OHL he got the call up to the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch. He finished with 3 assists in 8 games for the crunch and 62 points in 52 games for the Storm. A pretty strong showing from this good sized forward. He also contributes PIM and a good plus minus rating.
Garrett Meurs - OHL - Plymouth Whalers
Finished with 65 points in 68 games which is a continuation of his every season improvement so far. He also put in 66 PIM and a plus 18 rating. In the playoffs he continued his pace and notched 7 and 7 for 14 points in 15 games again notching a significant amount of PIM.
Kevin Hayes - NCAA - Boston College
Hayes didnt end up playing a ton of games but the games he did play he was at about a point per game pace. He will probably stay for his senior year but he could make the pro jump if he finds himself ready. He's taken a pretty big step up from last years performance of 7 goals and 28 points.
Michael St. Croix - WHL - Edmonton Oil Kings
After getting off to a quick start right out of the gate he slowed down a bit. He showed a a bit drop off from his sensational performance last year of 105 points. This year he finished with 92 which is still good.
Brett Ritchie - AHL - Texas Stars
He's a pure goal scorer. Notched 41 goals in 53 games. After his OHL season he went to play for the Texas Stars and got 3 goals and an assist in 5 games. He knows how to put the puck in the net and hes a big solid kid. I see him as NHL ready for next year but he will probably at least start out in the AHL again with the Texas Stars.
Stefan Matteau - NHL - New Jersey Devils
He's only 19 years old and he has already gotten the call up to the show. He finished with only 3 points in 17 games and was a healthy scratch for most of the end of the season. He should be starting on the Devils next year probably on the third line. He's got potential he just needs to settle into his role.
Riley Nash - AHL - Charlotte Checkers
Didnt really do too well getting only 9 points in 32 games. If he wants a shot in the NHL he has to show more than that for sure. He's already 24 and the only real sign of light from him this year was that he grabbed 3 points in their 5 playoff games.
Max Sauve - AHL - Rockford Icehogs
After being traded he played 8 games with the Icehogs and grabbed 3 points. Not a huge offensive threat but he can hold his own in the defensive end for sure. He's pretty big and could get some time at the NHL level next year based on his defensive game.
Kevin Sundher - AHL - Rochester Americans
Played fairly well with the Americans getting 13 points in 38 games. He's gonna have to show something more if he wants to make an impact and get noticed at a higher level more seriously.
Defense
Brian Dumoulin - AHL - Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins
he got off to a bit of a slow start but finished with a pretty good offensive line with 24 points in 73 games in his first pro season. He stepped it up in the playoffs and got 5 points in 8 games. He needs to work in his own end a bit more and he will be ready for the NHL. He might need a few injuries or some luck to grab a spot on the Penguins.
Tommy Cross - AHL - Providence Bruins
He started in the ECHL and did well offensively. Then he went to the Providence Bruins in the AHL and his offense declined but his defense remained solid. I see him as a pretty good defensive defenseman in the NHL. Maybe not next year but fairly soon.
Griffin Reinhart - WHL - Edmonton Oil Kings
He played well on a good line nabbing 29 points in 59 games and notching a plus 30 rating. Hes a big guy who can hold his own in his own end and contribute in the offensive zone.
Erik Gustafsson - Sweden - Djurgardens IF Stockholm
Pretty impressed with him, getting 23 points in 49 games and a plus 12 rating. He is playing at a high level and is making a significant impact.
Goalies
Jon Gillies - NCAA - Providence College
Along with Ritchie, Gillies is my other big surprise. I used to play with him in high school and middle school and the kid is huge and has his fundamentals down. He decommitted from Northeastern after Chris Rawlings decided to stay for his senior year. Gillies then went to Providence and instantly became the starter. He ended the season with 17 wins and a .931 save percentage which is very good. Another year or so and he could be Kiprusoff's replacement given the chance.
Anton Khudobin - NHL - Boston Bruins
He tore it up this year. relieving Rask with a .920 save percentage and grabbing 9 wins in his 14 appearances. He started out even stronger but dwindled off towards the end of the season. He will be a great back up for Rask next year and could be trade bait for a potential starting job somewhere else.
